ASH WEDNESDAYS & LENT

Tomorrow, we enter into the Lent Season and it’s Ash Wednesday. The generation X today might be questioning “what’s the fuzz?”Why Yes? religious discipline today is practically out of everyone life’s windows. haha … but it should not, is it? Ash Wednesday is fasting day (oh, well, some don’t eat for the sake of diet!) and No meat day! (oh, vegetarianism is in the vogue, too). Today, T.V.s and Radios will seek information on tomorrow’s event … ah, Ash Wednesday is still important and it makes news! But have we pause awhile and dig deeper to the meaning of this beautiful and solemn day? Tomorrow, many Catholics would like to be seen with the mark of ash on their foreheads, as if telling the whole world, “I’ve been to mass today!” Now, it is much more than just that, of course! It is a commitment to begin the church’s discipline of lent: conversion, penance & fasting, prayer and charity (sharing of gifts). Yes, it is a call to go back to God! How? Seeing ourselves in need of God’s forgiveness and mercy. Changing our selfish lifestyles to a Christ’s oriented lifestyle. Fasting, too, is important here, as it brings us to the doorstep of our neighbors in need. For sharing fortifies our fasting; it qualifies our denial of food for this day! When we share our food to others by not eating, we make a great difference from just any other food denial because of diet! It becomes a religious act! A food for the soul! Of course, all these disciplines of lent make us even grow closer to God and, then, our prayers become expressions of our love of God and neighbor … so, when we go to church tomorrow and present ourselves before the priest for the imposition of the ashes, remember, it is not just an act … it is a commitment to change for the better in God!

Good Evening to all, I’m from Mindanao, Iligan City to be specific. As far as I have known my great grand father is Mariano Redoble (Anoy) married to Pascuala Sabia. According to my father his Lolo Anoy came from Sibonga. Unluckily i was not able to see my great grand father or even my grand father. My Lolo died early, when my father was still at 5 years old.
I am very happy and excited that through this very informative web site, hopefully I can connect my roots. More power to Redoble’s clan.
