Anthony, there was a group of Cebu natives who went to Hawaii and to California at the beginning of the 1900’s. Many among them came from Moalboal, Cebu .. brothers of our great grandparents (Sabanal, Redoble, Cabag, etc) .. later on, after the war they were join by their wives … and in the 70’s and 80’s, by their children .. what a story!

Anybody recognize the name of Francisca Ding Ding and Leonco Hipolito. They were married in the PI and moved to the plantation in Hawaii. I believe they are from Cebu but where. I am trying to trace the name first. This if my father side.

My mother side Genrosa Sabanal and Roque Sajolan married in Hawaii but also from Cebu, I think. Anyone nout there know where I should start to find where the name comes from.

Padz, in my deduction, Nanay goria could be age level of Pablo “Amboy Kidlat” Sabanal. There are articles saying that Pablo Sabanal is the grandson of Laurente Sabanal. If Laurente Sabanal became known aroung 1850’s he must be born early 1800’s. So naa pa one generation before nila ni nanay goria and this pablo sabanal.

Angel, try doing research sad sa mga mercenary nga ilongo, boholano, ud cebuano nga gigamit sa mga spaniards in Mindanao.

the best way to trace connection with the sabanals and nanay goria is to go to the registry books of moalboal, and/or the baptismal records of any of them … pero tinuod sad nga “eskrima” was part of our childhood games ug daghan ta ug mga lolo ug lola nga mga mananambal or practicing witchcrap .. sa sabanal side kaha ni?
