March 20 is a memorable day for the family. It is the death anniversary of our father, Benjamin Cabag Redoble, Sr. Eight years ago, around 5:00PM, Papa had had a fatal cardiac arrest. He was to be brought to a Cebu City Hospital, but the ambulance had to settle with the Barili District Hospital where he was pronounced Dead on Arrival. I remember then I was preparing to go to a Kumpisalang Bayan in the Sacred Heart Chaplaincy in Cupang, Muntinlupa when I received the news of his cardiac arrest. Trusting the Lord, I prayed to the Lord to let him live if his mission here on earth was not yet finished and let him go in peace if he had done everything God wanted him to do. So I went to the commitment, only to be interrupted later on with a call about his demise. It was March 20, a very hot Wednesday when he died.
Strange, my heart was crying then, but there was no tears in my eyes. I was trusting that he had found his rest! A month before he died, I was in Moalboal to celebrate the 150th foundation of the Parish of San Juan Nepomuceno. And then Papa told me that he was very happy, and the only way to go to fulfill his happiness was heaven, with God.
Eight years later, we still missed our father. Our holy Mass was celebrated at the cemetery chapel, around the time he had his cardiac arrest. The majority of the family members were there, together with some relatives and friends of the nephews and nieces. It was a happy gathering. Though of course, we were all worried with the sudden downturn of the health of Mama Pacia (nee, Bonifacia Faunillan Tabanao). She seemed to be in pain, weak, fragile and slow. It was far from the real Mama we had known all of our life: fast, sure of herself, independent, strong, commander and a fighter (haha ..).
We had the Mass and I highlighted in my homily the 5th Sunday of Lent and the lessons of life papa had left us. After the Mass and prayers for the dead, we went home and a simple dinner of Lechon, Humba, Pansit, etc were served. When dinner was over, we continued our get together at the family’s lanai and belted our hearts out with the rented Karaoke. The winner, of course, were Bing and Aida! They were singing with much vigor and conviction until past Midnight .. hehe, poor neighbors!
Well, that was how the day ended. Our next appointment will be Moalboal Town fiesta: May 16, 2010, which for the family is always a get together to celebrate the birthday of Papa! See you then ..
Oh, by the way, the pictures on this day will be posted soon. I still have to figure out how to do it though ..
