In Iraq, a football player was shot by a fan. It happened while the player was dribbling the ball with his feet moving closer to the goal for the winner kick. As the player was about to do it, the crowd went wild, standing, shouting, and cheering on. Out of nowhere a gun was fired. The crowd was silenced and helplessly watched the player rolled over, blooded, and dead.
In Europe, a football player was also shot by a fan because he erroneously kicked the ball to their own goal and lost the game.
When England lost to Germany last week, they have to provide extra protection to the players on their way back to their homes.
These stories are part of the violent world of football. You’ll never understand the killing not unless you’re a true football fanatic.
The game between Ghana and Uruguay last week could probably raise also the ire of a fan to kill!
The game was on its ending minutes. Ghana and Uruguay was tied to 1:1 and there was a ball scramble near Uruguay’s goal. Player No. 18 Dominic Adiyah chanced upon the ball and hit the ball with his head tossing the ball upward and towards the goal for a 2:1 winner. The Uruguayan goalie reached for the ball, but the ball was too high for his long arms. Behind the goalie were two of his teammates. One of them was desperately reaching for the ball with his head, but failed. The other player, his name is Suarez, knowing the impossibility of the head to parry the ball out, he used his hands in hitting the ball upward and out. The play was illegal, Ghana coach call it a cheat.
Ghana lost the game. If not for that Suarez cheat, Ghana could have been playing with Netherlands in the quater finals.
What happened to Suarez for his illegal act? He was only ejected from the game. However, to the football fanatics the damage could never be undone. What will they do to him? Let’s wait and leave that to the football fanatics to decide!
