I was bumped by a car today … my rear was bumped by a car today … the rear of my car was bumped today!
It was a lazy drive from the monastery of the Annunciation in Alabang, Muntinlupa around 8:00 O’clock today, November 30, 2010. I was cruising a street of BF Homes Subdivision. The traffic slowed down as one car was about to turn left. I also slowed down to stop. But accidents do happen. As I was about to change the gear to move forward, I heard a thud, the car rocked and, lucky I was that I had a firm grip of the steering wheel, I was saved from bumping my head on the windshield. … and I forgot to put on the seat belt! Well, accidents do happen and forgetfulness do add to the worst. I don’t curse so I just said it in french! haha.
Trying to figure out what happen, I saw this young man rushing to my car and really was apologetic of what had happened. It was a very embarrassed kid, I say. He was saying things .. sorry this and sorry that. He called me “Sir”! Surprise of all surprises, I know the guy. And so I said, “Are you okay, Miguel?” Of all people, he should be the one to bump me!
Miguel is Miguel Limon, son of Ed and the late Sylvia. Good friends of mine. Tita Sylvia died of cancer three years ago. I had followed her illness from the very beginning till her death .. praying, consoling her with the sacraments, writing e mails, etc .. it was a beautiful friendship .. and I know up there, she is praying still for me and the rogationist seminarians.
Miguel was all the more surprised to find me at the driver’s seat. He was even more apologetic. When I checked the damage, it was minimal .. and so, I told him, “it was alright!” But added that, “It was not the right way to meet .. mybe his mom Sylvia has something to say, as a sign”. I heard that a week ago, the helper in their home saw tita Sylvia seated on the rocking chair … and it is a month before her death anniversary.
Accidents and surprises! We had such a minor accident .. and we left surprised for meeting again in that circumstance. We parted ways and I texted him (his number is in my directory): “Best regards Miguel. Drive carefully”. And I felt the air in the car so cool ..even if the air conditioner was off by then! I felt I was not alone in the car this morning!
